The Corolla relies on a hybrid motor to get the most miles out of a single fill up, while Honda plants a turbocharged 4-cylinder in the Civic to maximize efficiency. For Honda, the EPA estimates a peak efficiency rating of 32 city MPG/42 highway MPG. Those numbers are strong but are easily dwarfed by the Toyota hybrid motor, which gives the Corolla EPA estimates of 53 city MPG/52 highway MPG.1
