4Runner vs Wrangler: Cabin Space

v=Toyota 4Runner Cargo SpacePracticality is high on the priority list for many who are looking at the Toyota 4Runner or the Jeep Wrangler. When you pit the two vehicles against each other, the 4Runner has one massive advantage—a third row.

Cargo space is a perfect example of how useful it is to have a third row. The Wrangler can store 31.7 cubic feet of goods behind the second row and a total of 72.4 cubic feet of goods behind the first row.

There’s limited space behind the third row of the 4Runner—just 9 cubic feet. However, here’s the available space behind the other two rows:

  • 46.3 cubic feet of cargo room behind the second row
  • 88.8 cubic feet of cargo room behind the first row

The front row of the 4Runner is also slightly roomier than that of the Wrangler. It offers 41.7 inches of legroom to just 41.2 inches in the Jeep.

4Runner vs Wrangler: Standard and Available Towing Capacity

Toyota 4Runner Towing CapacityIf you want a roomy, capable SUV that can tow right from the base trim levels, the Toyota 4Runner is more ideal than the Jeep Wrangler. Both models come with a standard V6 engine, yet the 4Runner gives you more oomph and capability.

The Toyota V6 engine generates 278 lb-ft of torque. When you have it properly equipped with the integrated towing receiver hitch and the wiring harness with 4-pin and 7-pin connectors, you can expect a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.

The standard V6 engine of the Jeep Wrangler is a 3.6L unit producing 260 lb-ft of torque. The towing capacity of this V6, when properly equipped, reaches just 3,500 pounds.

The Wrangler has two other engine options as well—a 2.0L Turbo and a 3.0L EcoDiesel. Neither of these available motors can match the towing capacity of the 4Runner. Both peak at the same 3,500 pounds that the standard V6 offers.
