Engine Options and Performance
The Camry is a sedan made for customization. This sedan has three engine options to choose from, two gas and one hybrid engine. Both gas engines have a standard 8-speed transmission with a sequential shift mode.
The standard engine that powers the Camry is a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
The second gas option is a bit more powerful. The available 3.5L V6 engine generates 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque! Like the 2.5L gas engine, the 3.5L engine has three drive modes:
- Eco
- Normal
- Sport
The 2.5L 4-cylinder hybrid engine has 208 combined system net horsepower and 149 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid engine offers a good amount of power as well. The hybrid system has its own drive modes, including Eco, Normal, Sport, and EV mode.
All three engine options provide standard Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) or available All-Wheel Drive (AWD).
Fuel Economy
The Camry’s fuel economy depends on which engine you choose as well as if you’re opting for FWD or AWD. Front-Wheel Drive sometimes offers slightly more fuel economy.
With the standard 2.5L engine and FWD, the Camry has an EPA-estimated 28 city/39 highway MPG.* If you opt for AWD, you’ll get an EPA-estimated 25 city/34 highway MPG.*
When combined with FWD, the more powerful gas engine still offers plenty of fuel economy with an EPA-estimated 22 city/32 highway MPG.*
The hybrid engine offers the most fuel efficient of all three engine types. You’ll get an EPA-estimated 44 city/47 highway MPG when paired with FWD.*
Fuel-Saving Tips
When you drive, there are small changes you can make to improve your vehicle’s fuel economy. You might be doing some of these already, in which case this section will only serve as a reminder!
One thing that helps you conserve fuel while you drive on the highway is cruise control. Cruise control maintains your speed, so you don’t have to worry about accelerating, which uses more gas.
If you’re waiting for someone in your vehicle, shut off your engine. Turning off your engine saves gas.
Taking extra things out of your car can make a difference too! Extra weight in your vehicle that you don’t need means that you need more fuel to get up to speed.
